MEMBERS' VIRTUAL TOUR: Karen Patterson on The Fabric Workshop and Museum

ONLINE PROGRAM THROUGH ZOOM

Members’ Virtual tour of The Fabric Workshop and Museum, Philadelphia, PA

Karen Patterson, curator, The Fabric Workshop and Museum

Founded in 1977, the Fabric Workshop and Museum (FWM) both makes and presents, encouraging artists to experiment with new materials and new media in a veritable living laboratory. Through its renowned Artist-in-Residence (AIR) Program, FWM collaborates with artists to expand their practices, while documenting the course of artistic production from inspiration to realization. FWM presents large scale exhibitions, installations, and performative works, using innovative fiber and other media. Today, FWM is the only US institution devoted to creating work in textile and new media in collaboration with some of the most significant artists of our time.

Karen Patterson has been with FWM for about a year and is its first curator. She will take us on a behind-the- scenes tour, give us some history on how the Workshop evolved, walk us through the screen printing process and projects in process, and show us some of the works in the collection. We hope to see ceramicists in residence who will be newly working with screen printing techniques.
