Design and Healing: Creative Responses to Epidemics
Ellen Lupton, Betty Cooke and William O. Steinmetz design chair, Maryland Institute College of Art; and senior curator, contemporary design, Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum
Curator Ellen Lupton will share ideas from her exhibition Design and Healing: Creative Responses to Epidemics, curated in collaboration with MASS Design Group. For centuries, epidemics have triggered changes in how societies approach healthcare, with broad impacts on our cities, homes, and public places. Designers, architects, and healthcare workers have introduced transformative ideas to combat cholera, tuberculosis, malaria, polio, and COVID-19. Lupton will narrate some of the surprising stories connecting design and healthcare. Design and Healing is on view at Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum through February 2023.
