Reception 1 - 1:30 pm

Join jazz educator and pianist Quentin Walston for an immersive concert seminar exploring the life and music of Duke Ellington. Through captivating performances and insightful commentary, Quentin will highlight Ellington's enduring legacy in jazz, from his innovative compositions to his influential career. Ellington, a DC native, was a self-taught composer who began his career in the 1920s as jazz was rocketing in popularity.  Interested in composing and arranging for large ensembles, he quickly became one of the most recognizable voices of the Swing Era. His ability to create and blend tonal colors, as well as his unique piano technique, made Duke stand out among his big band peers. His lasting impact can be heard in his many compositions that are "jazz standards", performed and interpreted by students and professionals of all jazz styles. Quentin Walston's unique concert seminar blends music and education, offering audiences a deeper appreciation of the "Duke's" genius. A Q&A session will follow, allowing attendees to engage further with the world of jazz.
