Members’ Program: American Modernism at the BMA
Virginia Anderson, Curator of American Art, Baltimore Museum of Art and Brittany Luberda, Assistant Curator of Decorative Arts, Baltimore Museum of Art
11 am program at The Baltimore Museum of Art (10 Art Museum Drive)
Join Virginia Anderson, Curator of American Art at The Baltimore Museum of Art, and Brittany Luberda, Assistant Curator of Decorative Arts at the Baltimore Museum of Art for a lecture on the BMA’s reinstallation of the museum’s collection of American Modernism (1900-1950), which opens this July 17th. The reinstallation re-centers the canon of American Modernism, featuring works by previously underrepresented artists, and dismantles the stylistic and medium-based hierarchies that have dominated past presentations of this period. Organized along two main thematic groupings, “Identities” and “Technologies,” the installation also invites visitors to draw connections among the objects and contemporary issues and everyday life. Following the lecture, Dr. Anderson and Brittany Luberda, Assistant Curator of Decorative Arts, will give a tour of the Modernism galleries, showcasing new discoveries, highlights from the collection, and recent acquisitions.
