Members’ Tour: Majolica Mania at the Walters Art Museum
Jo Briggs, Jennie Walters Delano curator of 18th- and 19th-century art at The Walters Art Museum
2 pm and 3 pm tours The Walters Art Museum (600 N Charles Street - Upper Charles Street Entrance)
Join co-curator of “Majolica Mania,” Jo Briggs, for a tour of this lively exhibition, which aims to re-integrate majolica, a lead-glazed ceramic debuted by Minton & Co. in 1851, to the history of Victorian design. Featuring 350 works that highlight the vibrant color and stunning inventiveness of majolica, the exhibit explores themes including the natural world, dining and fashion, class, labor, immigration, and the human cost of majolica’s production. On display are loans from the Royal Collection Trust in the U.K., and from private collections in the United States, many of which have never been publicly exhibited.
Members-only program, no fee. Space is limited, advance registration is required. Please register online here for the 2 pm or the 3 pm tour.
