Duo Esplanade: Living Music
Dr. Ayca Cetin (flute) and Dr. Katsuya Yuasa (clarinet)
Praised for their “excellent intonation, fine timbral blend, impeccable articulation, and brilliant technical command” (Leone Buyse), Duo Esplanade is a versatile chamber ensemble that offers musically and intellectually exciting performances. Founded in 2014 in Boston, this flute-clarinet duo engages audiences by highlighting the standard repertoire, exploring non-popularized works, arranging music that is traditionally performed by various instruments, collaborating with other musicians, and expanding the literature for clarinet and flute by commissioning new pieces.
Presenting a program of works written by living composers (Chelsea Komschlies, Kevin Wilson, Daniel Dorff, Roger Zare, Jose-Luis Maurtua, and Nicole Chamberlain), Duo Esplanade hopes to make a positive statement on contemporary musical culture through creative interpretations. From energetic, humorous contrasts to complicated and continuous rhythmic motions, elements will include not only classical, but will feature jazz, rock, pop, and world music. The two high woodwinds will showcase the flexibility and energy of flute and clarinet in both sound and technique.
