Pissarro and His Prints
Joachim Pissarro, Bershad professor of art history and director of the Hunter College Galleries, Hunter College, CUNY/City University of New York
Among all the Impressionists, Camille Pissarro was the most prolific printmaker – producing about 200 etchings and lithographs from 1863 to 1902 – and became so enthusiastic about the medium that he purchased his own printing press in 1894. Radically experimental, he pushed the medium to its limits through his manipulation of etching plates. This lecture will explore this wonderful painter as a pioneering printmaker.
